Menifee CDC

The teachers and staff at this seven room preschool located in Menifee, CA really try to make a learning environment not just in the classroom, but one that reaches out into their courtyard and includes special events and projects. The program incorporates the traditional small group time, block and, science play areas with staff that work hard to keep the program flexible to incorporate the interests of the children with new learning opportunities like gardening.

The children are fortunate enough to work with Ms. Leticia, our staff member with a green thumb. With the donations of seeds and soil the children have worked on garden projects where they participated in planting, watering, and learning about how various fruits and plants grow. They have helped grow strawberries, cucumbers, carrots, an apple tree, pomegranate tree, flowers and a variety of herbs.

The children range in age from 18 months to 5 years old and use their unique courtyard setting as an outdoor classroom and perfect setting for center events. This includes their Teddy Bear Picnic were the staff put out blankets and umbrellas and all classes join in. They read and eat lunch with their favorite teddy bears brought from home for this special occasion. During Dr. Seuss week, the children and teachers dressed in costume and the children brought in their favorite book to read and share. This included a costume parade in the courtyard.

Menifee CDC feels fortunate to have a lot of parent involvement that ranges from fundraising, parents attending center events and participating on the Parent Advisory Committee. They have raised money by helping on the Scholastic Book Fair and bottles/cans recycling for the center. The Parent Advisory Committee is a group of 10 parents who have joined to help give feedback on what they would like to see at the center, learn our philosophy on teaching and work on agreements for future projects.

This center has also been the host to the annual Pancake Breakfast. All seven centers in Menifee come together for carnival games and donate pancake breakfast to the families in their community. It is easy to see why families and children love this center.
